Castrol Vecton or CRB: Picking a Heavy Duty Diesel Engine Oil

If you run trucks, plant or tractors, the engine oil decision usually comes down to two things: what the engine manufacturer specifies, and how you actually operate. Castrol splits its heavy duty diesel oils across a few ranges and the right answer depends on both.

Vecton

Vecton is the modern heavy duty range, aimed at road transport fleets running current emissions equipment. If your vehicles have diesel particulate filters and after treatment systems, this is the range to be looking at, because oils for those engines are formulated with limits on the ash forming additives that block filters over time.

CRB

CRB covers mixed fleet operation, where you have a yard with a range of ages and specifications and you want fewer part numbers on the shelf. It is a practical choice for operators running older equipment alongside newer, and for agricultural and plant use where the duty cycle looks nothing like motorway running.

Monogrades still have a place

A monograde such as an SAE 40 is not obsolete. Older engines, some plant, and equipment operating at consistently warm temperatures may still specify one. If the manual calls for a monograde, use a monograde.

Agricultural fleets

Farm equipment often needs more than engine oil from a single supplier. The Agri range covers engine, transmission and hydraulic products for tractors, and axle oils cover final drives.

The specification is not optional

Heavy duty diesel oils are approved against ACEA and API sequences and against individual engine manufacturer specifications. Using an oil that does not meet the specification can affect a warranty claim, and on after treatment equipped engines it can shorten filter life measurably.

Send us the engine manufacturer and the specification in the handbook, and we will confirm the grade and pack size from the Castrol range. Request a quote for drum or pallet quantities.
